1 Peter 2:14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.

Peter gives two types of leaders in the Roman empire. In verse 13, he gives the emperors and in this verse governors. The job of political leaders is to ensure justice. They should serve as unbiased arbiters of the truth. Unfortunately, in our world today, politicians push their own views and agendas without concern for justice. One issue that is pushed aside too much is justice for the unborn children. So much of politics is turned around and over so that wrong is made to be right. “Political correctness” is more important than “truth and justice.” What can the average person do? We can pray, vote, write letters, make phone calls, and live with integrity and justice ourselves. To some degree the individual is powerless in the sea with pounding waves of unrighteousness. Early Christians were in an even more difficult place because of their small numbers. What did they do? They lived righteous, holy, and loving lives. This love spread out over the Roman Empire over the course of generations. We can continue to be salt and light, to plant seeds of love and holiness.
