1 Peter 5:5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
Peter now shifts his focus to those who are younger. Being young has many advantages, such as enthusiasm and willingness to try to news. The young tend to be more idealistic with many hopes and dreams for their future. The downside of this is the temptation not to listen to the wisdom of those who have come before us. In our rapidly changing and technological world, those who are older may seem irrelevant to the young. Many older people struggle with computers, cell phones, navigating social media, and other modern inventions. For the young, they have grown up with video games and cell phones, so using them is second nature.
Listening takes humility and submission. We can learn from anyone, even if we disagree or think they are “old fashioned.” Peter urges his reader to be humble with one another. They should learn from one another, listen, and grow. This pleases God.
