James 1:7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
The person who doubts will not receive answers to his or her prayer. Why? People doubt God for several reasons. A big roadblock is fear. Fear can be caused by external forces of shame before others, coercion, abuse, fatigue, or many other things. Fear takes our attention and worship from God and places on ourselves through self-preservation. Internal forces include guilt and selfishness. How do we overcome fear that leads to doubt? It may require small baby steps of faith. We need to find assurance of our salvation first, and then we must develop in our love for God and others. As we begin this walk of love, we will find ourselves tapping more into God’s abundant grace. We will become more intuned to God’s purposes and our prayers will align more with God’s will. Doubt messes all this up because we take our eyes off of God and place them somewhere else. Our prayers may be selfish because we cannot see past our own situation.
