1 John 1:2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.
Jesus brought life: “I am the way, truth, and life” (John 14:6). The life of Jesus before and after the cross provides new life for us. Before the cross, Jesus’ life brings the hope for life on earth. After the cross, Jesus’ resurrected life brings hope for life after death. The two are inseparable. Life on earth determines life after death; resurrected life gives assurance and victory for life on earth. Jesus’ life is beyond time but entered time at a special moment when he lived among creation. It was during these few years that people began to understand God’s greater purpose for humanity. Other books in the New Testament help us understand this well, for example, Hebrews 1-2. John and other early Christians experienced Jesus. This started a chain reaction that continues to this day. Those who have faith can still “see” Jesus through the written Word of God (the Bible), those who truth in Jesus (the church), and the One who bears witness to Jesus (the Holy Spirit).
