1 John 5:5 And who is the one who is victorious over the world if not the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
τίς [δέ] ἐστιν ὁ νικῶν τὸν κόσμον εἰ μὴ ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ;
To find victory over the world and all its represents, we must turn to Jesus who is the Light of the world. What does victory over the world mean? This victory is one that comes through humility in reliance upon God as the source of strength and the one who points the way of love. It does not come through self praise or self effort, for these will only bring temporary victory at best. Faith in Jesus opens the door to eternal life. The victory is not something reserved only for when we die and go to heaven. Even that statement by itself can be taken as a selfish thing. Victory can be experienced in this life, now. Importantly, however, is that this victory is not just about me having a good life. No, the focus rather is on love and service to God and others. That is where victory come.
