Revelation 1:16: And having in his right hand seven stars and a sharp two-edged sword coming out of his mouth, and his face as the sun shines in its power.

John’s description of Jesus continues. Verse 20 informs us that the seven stars represent the seven angels of the seven churches. These churches are in the protective hand of Jesus. But he The two-edged sword has double power and double authority to cut in any direction. Jesus’ face is brighter than even the sun. These descriptions bring awe to us. They recall Isaiah’s vision of the throne in Isaiah 6. What should our response be? Like all who have ever had genuine visions of God or God’s throne, we too must fall down in humility and worship. Experiencing God’s presence should also cause fear, in the sense of dread as our sins are exposed, and awe in the sense of power. Jesus’ words go out and pierce the darkness and pierce hardened hearts. Those who are humble will experience purging of the darkness and purification into light. Those who harden their hearts will experience judgement. This is one of the messages the Book of Revelation will communicate.
