Revelation 6:1-2 Now I watched when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, a white horse! And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer.
The first seal of the scroll is opened. The plan of God for the closure of history begins. The image is of a rider on a white horse. White is symbolic in Revelation for purity, but it is impossible to know the exact meaning of white in this verse. Jesus will come on a white horse in chapter 19. A pure white horse is a beautiful animal. It gets one’s attention. The rider comes to conquer. Whoever this rider is, his purpose is clear: to gain control. The unfolding of the end times begins with a person seeking control. This has happened throughout history. We cannot tell the motive of this conquering, whether is a for good purposes or bad. This person is given power to conquer with the bow and authority to rule with the crown. The simple lessons for us from these verses are 1) that God is in control and only allows things to happen according to his will, and 2) we need not worry because all this will take place under the sovereign watch of the Lamb.
