Revelation 8:13 As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”
The symbolism of Revelation continues with the regal and magnificent eagle warning of coming woes. Three woes will be pronounced in the coming chapters. A woe is the sound of suffering, pain, discouragement. It is the opposite of peace. These woes will come about as the result of the blowing of the last three trumpets. “Woe” is a word we do not like to hear or to say ourselves. At the depth of discouragement, a person may say or think, “Woe is me.” When we say this word, the sound of it gets to the depth of our soul. That is where the real cleaning needs to take place. We need to take heed to the warnings God gives us. There are many such warnings around us. It can be very difficult at times to distinguish what can be signs and warnings from God and just normal life. Perhaps some of the ups and downs of life can serve as warnings from God. In the last days, the woes will be global warnings to heed God and repent. We as a human race are experiencing such warnings now, as have other generations. Will we heed God’s warnings or explain then away as chances of nature or the way of life? Only fools will do that.
