Revelation 10:1-4 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write;but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.”

The angel that comes down from heaven reflects the one who sent him. His coming has the appearance of a big storm, a typhoon like what comes over the Philippines. Angels are messengers for God in the Bible. They speak the voice of God. Little is said here about the little scroll in the angel’s hand. Based on the other scrolls, something serious will happen. He straddles both land and sea, leaving no escape. His voice brings thunder. Any humans still alive will know something big is happening. John is told not to write what he hears.

Once again, it is difficult to understand this passage. We should pause and consider what God can and will do before the end. The word of God has gone forth. At the end of time, the message will be silenced. People have had their chance to repent. Their hearts are hardened, their fate sealed by their own rebellion. We must seek God while he can be found. We must soften our hearts to hear his word. We must respond with openness and obedience.
