Revelation 21:5-8  He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

This passage gives seven statements from God:

  1. God will make all things new. This is a recreation. The difference now is that this is on the other side of the Incarnation, death, and resurrection of Christ. God’s full self-disclosure in human form has been given.
  2. John is to write down these things for future generations like us.
  3. It is done. These are the words we are waiting for.
  4. Alpha and Omega. This is the same reference given to Jesus in chapter 1. God is beyond time. He was present at the beginning of creation and will be at the end of the old creation. He will bring about the new creation.
  5. Gives to the thirsty. God is available for those who seek Him.
  6. I will be their God: The Father and child relationship is at the deepest of human longings.
  7. Judgment. A warning to those who will not heed the words of Revelation and believe in Jesus.

This really a summary of what the whole book is about. God does not speak directly much in Revelation, only in 1:8; 16:1, 17. This passage shows who God is and what happens to people.
