Revelation 22:6-7 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.” “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”

The words from the angel give authority to John’s revelation and the book that resulted. The book of Revelation should be read as prophecy. Prophecy in the Bible is not simply about telling the future. Prophecy is always given to impact the present. So we must ask ourselves how the present is impacted by what is read in Revelation. How does reading this book impact how we live now?

The key words that are difficult to consider in verse 6 are “soon take place.” How soon? Many of the descriptions of Revelation are timeless in their message. The “soon” may be now for many things that affect our lives. The “soon” of verse 6 continues to verse 7 with Jesus’ coming again. The “meanwhile” is that we should keep the words of Revelation. Live them out. Obey them. Let them become part of our lives. Let the warnings be taken seriously. Let the hope motivate.
