1 Peter 2:22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
Peter has in his mind now Isaiah 53. This verse states what other passages in the New Testament claim: Jesus was without sin. The author in Hebrews shows that this made him the perfect sacrifice and high priest. Peter is focusing on a different aspect of Jesus’ sinlessness. When faced with suffering and temptation, Jesus did not give but remained faithful to the Father. His purity led to his suffering.
There are many reasons people suffer today. In the season we are in now, political views can be a cause for suffering. At other times of a person’s life, it might be relationship issues or health challenges. These are not directly related to sin or deceit but in some situations can be connected to these. It is crucial for believers to look at all of life through the filter of Jesus. He is our example of purity and integrity. His presence with us through the Holy Spirit can be our guide. When we fail to listen and obey, he becomes our convicter, advocate, and forgiver. The astonishing claim of this verse has profound impact on all of our life.
