2 Peter 1:17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

The confirmation of Jesus’ earthly ministry and of his relationship to God came at his baptism recorded in Matthew 3:17; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22; John 1:32-34; and the transfiguration in Matthew 17:5, Mark 9:7, and Luke 9:35. Peter notes here that Jesus received honor and glory from the Father. These are two significant attributes in the Bible. Jesus was honor by the Father at his baptism, transfiguration, and then after his resurrection. The honor he received through the voice from heaven confirms his relationship as the Son of God. This is a special designation of relationship. This is not the general sonship of humanity when we are adopted into God’s family. This is a unique Sonship that is not dependent upon human choice. Jesus was the Son confirmed through his miraculous birth and later resurrection (see Romans 1:3-4). Jesus was also glorified by the “Majestic Glory.” Jesus incarnated in the flesh the awesome glory of God (John 1:14). God the Father was well pleased with Jesus because of his total faith and obedience. He was without sin, confirmed by victory over the devil and temptation (Hebrews 4:15). All the fullness of God dwelt upon him in bodily form (Col 2:9). This person is the object of our faith and hope. Peter reminds his readers of one of the most fundamental aspects of our Christian faith. It is the goal of the knowledge of verse 3 and the faith in verse 5.
