Hebrews 1:7 In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.”
The author now demonstrates the significance of who the angels are by quoting from Psalm 104:4. By doing this, he shows how significant it is that they worship the Son. Angels are spiritual beings. At different places in the Bible, angles appear on earth in physical form. We cannot know how this works. The basic definition of “angel” is messenger. They are beings who bring messages from God to humanity. They also sing praises to God around God’s throne. They have some type of bodily form yet exist in the spiritual realm. They do as God commands. “Flames of fire” could be metaphoric for their holiness since fire often represents purity and holiness. Angels are holy beings who are able to be in God’s presence. This makes the claim even more significant that the Son is superior to even these beings. Angels should not be worshiped. They are only representatives of God’s word. The Son, however, is worthy to be worshiped.
