Hebrews 6:19-20: We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

We can count on God’s promises of salvation in Jesus, and this gives us hope. The author’s image of “a sure and steadfast anchor” shows that this hope is something that will keep us secure in times of storm. This salvation is something we “have” and is available to us now. This hope of salvation is made possible by what Jesus did as our high priest. As priest, Jesus went to the Father in our behalf. He is a forerunner in many regards: He was faithful through temptation; he had strong faith that did not waiver; he was obedient, even to the point of death; it was the first to rise from the dead. We can follow in this path because he has first open the path for us. He is qualified to do this as the eternal high priest. He represents perfectly God to humanity through incarnation and then humanity to God through the cross. Because Jesus is the perfect representation of God and the perfect representation of humanity, he is the only one qualified to bridge the gap of sin. He is the primary means of hope for humanity.
