Romans 6:20-21  For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

Being bound to sin removes us from the arena where righteousness is the standard for life. There is no middle ground. Either sin or righteousness ultimately controls our lives. The choice is up to us. God offers grace to us to find release from sin’s bondage. We must accept this offer. What is the price? Our whole self. If we choose the way of sin, the ultimate outcome is death. There is something enticing about sin, otherwise people would not do it. Sin appeals to our base nature controlled by selfishness. Temptation offers us promises that look appealing. These promises may be related to happiness, good feelings, security, health, and many other things. The promises eventually  turn out to be lies. We may not always see the outcome in this life, although often sin brings many hardships for us.
