Galatians 3:22 22But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
The Bible reveals sin to be sin. It serves as a guide of what to avoid and what to do in order to experience God’s peace. The Bible as Scripture contains the voice of God to us. It is the book of love. Love can also serve as a warning, because the one who loves knows that certain choices will bring heartache, pain, and destruction.
Locked up means to confine or imprison with no escape. The Scripture, the Old Testament which contained God’s laws for Paul, reveals certain actions and attitudes to be sin. Once an action is revealed to be sin, there is no escape from its power or consequences outside of God’s grace in Jesus Christ. Human effort through trying to obey the law cannot free anyone from the control of sin. So that shows that God uses the law to reveal sin and show the need for faith in his promise. This promise is experienced through faith in Jesus Christ and only by those who believe. Paul does not reject the law but puts it in the right place in the plan of salvation.
