Galatians 3:25-26 25But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God, through faith.
Since this faith has come in Jesus through his death and resurrection (Romans 4:25), the role of the law has changed. The law is experienced in a new way in Christ. The law can return to its original purpose as the guide for holiness and love. Believers now have the new power source of the Holy Spirit who will write God’s laws on our hearts (Jeremiah 31:31-33) and empower us to live out the law of Christ, which is the law of love (Galatians 5:14). We no longer need to try to obey the law in order to look good before God, but we obey the law because we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love others unconditionally.
Although Paul is writing historically about the period before the coming of Jesus, the principles are timeless. Many people are trapped under the “law” because they are trying to please God by their good works. This passage offers the freedom of salvation through God’s grace in Christ experienced through faith.
Faith in Jesus is a possibility for all people. Since the promise of righteousness or justification is available by faith and not by human effort to obey the law, that means the only requirement is for a person to believe. “Works of the law” such as circumcision are a barrier that marks those who are Jews and those who are not. Faith is an open invitation for all people. This was good news for the Gentiles in Galatia. They did not need circumcision to be justified and made right with God. This offer is available to all who are in Christ Jesus through faith.
for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
