{"id":8094,"date":"2021-12-03T00:00:28","date_gmt":"2021-12-02T14:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acky4.com\/wp\/?p=8094"},"modified":"2021-12-04T08:56:23","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T22:56:23","slug":"older-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/acky4.com\/wp\/2021\/12\/03\/older-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Older Women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Titus 2:3-4a\u00a0<em><sup>3<\/sup><\/em><em>Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good, <sup>4<\/sup>in order that they might with self-control teach young women <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In verse 3, Paul moves to the next group, older women. Just like the older men, these women would have been held in some esteem because of their age and experience. They would generally be the grandmothers in the culture, with older or grown children. Paul gives Titus instructions on what to teach these women.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">First, they needed to be <em>reverent\u00a0<\/em>(<em>hieroprepeis<\/em>). This word is related to a holy temple. It refers to an inward, spiritual commitment evident in outward holiness. Second, they should not be <em>slanderers <\/em>(<em>diabolous<\/em>). This word is similar to \u201cdevil,\u201d who is the great deceiver and trickster. Slandering is saying things about people in such a way that the truth is twisted for personal gain. Being <em>addicted to much wine <\/em>is a form of \u201cslavery\u201d (<em>dedoul\u014dmenas<\/em>) where a person makes bad choices that he or she might not otherwise make when sober. Cretans were known for drunkenness.
