“Fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith” (1 Tim 1:18b-19). When God shows us something, we must respond. Faith involves openness to God’s often quiet voice through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will speak to our consciences, showing the direction we should go or not go, the words we should say or not say, or the activities we should do or not do. To reject the leading of the Holy Spirit will lead us to shipwreck. Our faith will grow weaker, distorted, or misdirected. The answer comes in humility and seeking. We come humbly to God and we seek God’s will. The seeking may at times we quiet and involve waiting. Other times it may require hard work and stepping out into the unknown. If in doubt, we can always ask a close friend.
