I want to reflect on Ps 103 this week. I read it to one of my patients last week and it has been stuck with me, so I need to do something with it. Ps 103:1-2: “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” I usually run into problems in my life when I forget to praise. What gets in the way of praising God in my life? Like other things, it is usually being too busy and caught up in my own affairs and doings. Sometimes these are important things, but they take my mind away from the most important thing: acknowledging God as the supreme and sovereign ruler of my life. Praise is a conscious decision to elevate God to the highest place in our lives. If God is first, we surely cannot forget Him. But when we put something or someone else in God’s spot, our focus will become this new thing. The logic of this is all clear, but it is exceedingly difficult to live out. That is why we need constant reminders by filling ourselves with God-honoring activities and people.
