Psalm 103
7 He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel:
8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
As I continue to think about this psalm this week, I pause in the middle of it to recall with David the history of God’s people. The hope of Israel rested upon God’s self-revelation of his love and grace. The people experienced this many times, but especially through Moses as he led them through the desert to the Promised Land. It is often through the desert that we recognized most vividly the power and presence of God. Unfortunately, we, like the Israelites, get ourselves stuck in our rebellion and wander around needlessly and aimlessly when God has better things for us. The Good News is that God is forgiving. In our deserts, he points the way through grace that we may experience the promises and hopes that he desires for us.
