1 Timothy 4:14

Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.

I remember the night I was formally ordained into ministry. All the eyes and prayers of the district assembly were briefly on me, with the platform at Nampa College Church full of ordained ministers. Those moments are special for those who have been through it. Ordination, at least in the Church of the Nazarene, comes at the end of a long journey. For me, this meant 7 years of education beyond college (actually, I have almost finished my doctorate by that point), several years in full-time ministry, and numerous interviews before various committees every year beginning when I was in college. This is almost as rigorous as a medical doctor. As ministers, we must take seriously the call to prepare as faithful stewards of the divine mysteries (1 Cor. 4:1). The eternal outcome of those under our care is at stake.
