1 Corinthians 1:4
I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.
Why do we give thanks to God? What do we see in other people that prompts us to thank God for them? Paul could have picked a lot of things about the Corinthians and complained to God about them. But what we find in the opening paragraph of this letter, in the thanksgiving section, is that instead of complaining to God or the Corinthians about their problems, he gives thanks for their problems. Their problems are opportunities for God’s grace to work. Our own problems are the opportunities for God’s grace to transform us. If we are perfect, why do we need changed? But we are all cracked pots in need of repair. God’s grace can change every part of our lives if we will just open ourselves up to the work of Christ through the Holy Spirit who will teach us the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16).
