1 Corinthians 3:10

According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.

A statement that has been an important guide to my life is, “What God calls you to do, He will enable you to perform.” God gives the grace to do what he has called us to do. Paul attributes any effectiveness in his ministry in Corinth to the grace of God. Paul also did his part through careful building. He did not do sloppy work. He describes himself here as a “master builder.” He worked hard in discipleship and training up the believers in Corinth. He could not do it all but needed the help of others who would follow after him. In this case, he has mentioned Apollos, a learned Jewish Christian from Alexandria, Egypt. The stress in this verse is on doing careful work in the ministry. Sloppy or lazy work will not bring glory to God. When we make ourselves good instruments of God’s grace, we enable that grace to work in us and through us.
