1 Corinthians 3:12-13
Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw—each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
I have invested a lot of my time, energy, and money into things the past few years that do not last. A lot of this was as a hobby or form of stress relief, although I experienced a lot of stress in fixing these things. I am a fixer, repairer, builder, and dreamer. I see the potential in something old or broken and try to figure out how to fix it. The sad thing is that all the cars, motors, houses, and projects I have worked on will someday break again. Unfortunately, sometimes they break sooner than later. What lasts beyond this time into eternity? Are we investing in these things? The only thing I can think of that will go on is human souls. Even the earth will some day undergo a heated destruction. We can invest in people. Jesus talked about eternal investment in Matthew 6:19-21. How we have invested our time, energy, and money will one day be exposed. This causes me to rethink a lot of things in my life and to double check my priorities.
