1 Corinthians 3:21-23
So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
Paul draws to a close a rather abstract chapter and discussion about how the Corinthians were misguided in their allegiance. They were letting their own agendas determine the direction of their fellowship. They were choosing sides, which always means that someone is put down. Paul brings them back to the essentials of church life: all that we are and all that we do belong to Christ. We are his servants. If we as churches would just put him first, the rivalry would end and a powerful unity would result. If our focus is on God, then the rest of life will fall into place. God will help us reorder and restructure our lives so that our priorities are consistent with God’s priorities. We will begin to see the world as God does. Our worldview becomes God’s plan for the world. Basically, we grow in the mind of Christ because we are becoming more and more obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
