1 Corinthians 4:2
Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.
It is one thing to receive a call from God to do a specific ministry. It is another to carry through with this call in rigorous preparation and implementation. Sadly, I have seen people say they have a call to ministry but then for some reason do not carry through with this. I am not one to judge, for God leads us in many different paths throughout life. Even some of the Old Testament prophets had temporary calls to do a specific task. But if we receive a call, nudge, or even the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, we can be assured that God will give us the resources to carry this out. My life phrase has been, “What God calls you to do, He will enable you to perform.” I have had to test this multiple times when I thought the task was too big for me. I am so glad that God is gracious and forgiving. I am too much like MuchAfraid in the classic, Hinds Feet in High Places. This crippled girl was called to go to the High Places. She had many trials along the way and often cowered in fear before the obstacles. The Good Shepherd was available to her at any point. He forgave her for her failures and kept prompting her to go to the tops of the mountains. Our Lord is like that with us. As stewards of the gospel message, how well do we follow through with our call? If we fail (and we are bound to do this), are we willing in humbleness to seek God’s forgiveness and restoration? We cannot live any day without this forgiveness and mercy.
