1 Corinthians 11:17

In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.

I want to look just at this one verse today. It is sad when Christians get together only to grow further apart. Paul’s answer to this in this chapter is focused and appropriate worship. If we put God first, our differences will melt away. A church that worships together in sincerity will be less likely to be divided. Division usually happens when certain people push their own agenda, when self becomes master, where pride powers the fellowship. The Corinthians were divided because of their distorted and lack of worship. They were more concerned about feeding their bellies than about feeding their souls. God used Paul to bring this church back to the essentials of loving God and loving each other. Love could be the salve that heals the wounds of self.
