Revelation 1:2 who witnessed the word of God and the witness of Jesus Christ [and] the things he saw.

ὃς ἐμαρτύρησεν τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τὴν μαρτυρίαν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ὅσα εἶδεν.

John reflects back on the same ideas he wrote about in John 1:1-4, 14: the Word of God that became flesh. John heard, seen, and touched the living Word (1 John 1:1). The Book of Revelation is further testimony about the Word. The difference now is that the Word has been raised from the dead, exalted, and seated at the right hand of God. Revelation confirms the person of Jesus Christ as described in the Gospels. We accept by faith that John’s testimony is valid and true. This idea is one of the key themes of this document: will the reader accept and believe these words? This will be shown by 1) enduring through suffering, and 2) holy living in the midst of an increasingly evil and corrupt world.
