Revelation 2:22-23 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
This verse gives the first hint of judgment for those who do not repent from sin. This verse gives a strong warning to the church in Thyatira about the dangers of remaining in their sins of following the way immorality and idolatry. Jesus searching hearts and minds. That should be enough to know cause every human to look deeply within themselves and feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Luke 5:22 records, “Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, ‘Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?'” “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Sin has consequences not just for us, but for those we love, especially our children. Exodus 34:7 says, “Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of theparents to the third and fourth generation.” We can learn a lesson from the experiences of other people. But sin is enticing and Satan deceives. We become blinded by our culture. We struggle against the pull of the flesh. We are not left alone but God will provide a way out if we are willing to look and seek God’s help (see 1 Corinthians 10:13). There is hope, but we must take sin seriously.
