Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

The opportunity to repent comes through the conviction of Jesus who stands at the door and knocks. This verse is well known and many people have see pictures of Jesus standing at a door knocking to come in. The key idea is knocking. Jesus will come to us in our sin, temptation, and offer us the way out of the trap in which we find ourselves. The knocking is an invitation, not for Jesus but for us who stand with the door locked. We can push Jesus outside because of our sin. Jesus won’t give up knocking, but there may come a time that we no longer hear the knocking.

The invitation is for “anyone.” This is no a closed invitation for a select few, the “elect” or chosen. This verse is a timeless truth that is for all situations and all people. The idea of eating as a fellowship is important idea in the Bible and in most cultures today. The restaurants stay in business because of this cultural activity. Eating provides opportunity for talking, getting to know the other person better, time for story telling, and many other activities. Jesus wants to become part of our life now. This verse has a promise for those who will open the door. Invite Jesus into your life!
