Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
This verse shows the reason the four creatures and elders worship God. God is worthy. “Worthy” and “worship” come from the same ancient words. Worship is the response of encountering a worthy being. God is the most high Lord. No other being deserves worship. We are to worship the Lord God and him alone (Exodus 20:5). Worship involves giving God glory, honor, and power. These are three things that human also strive for. When this striving is powered by sin, it will turn to self glorification, honor, and empowerment. People fight for positions. They seek to be honored by others. They seek positions of power and influence. These actions often result in other people getting hurt. People rise to power on the backs of others, sometimes even in the church.
What makes God the worthy one? First, he is the creator of all things. Creation must acknowledge its creator. To do otherwise leads to fueling sin’s lust for more. Sin is the result of replacing worship of the Creator with worship of creation (Romans 1:18-31). Worship begins with humility, laying our crowns of our achievements and self-worth before the one who has created us to return his love.
