Revelation 14:6-7 Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
John sees three angels. The first proclaims the eternal gospel to all the earth. This is an interesting description of the gospel. This agrees with other parts of the New Testament that state that the gospel and coming of Jesus Christ have been part of God’s plan since before the creation of the world. The plan of salvation was in place before God created Adam and Eve. This message must go out to all the earth. Matthew 24:14 says, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” With the use of technology, this is more possible in our day more than any other time in history. With mobile phones and the internet, soon the world can hear and receive the gospel.
What should be the response of the world to the gospel? This is what the angel proclaims. This is what the gospel is all about: to fear God, give him glory, and worship him. The problem with humanity is that it refused to worship God. As Paul writes in Romans 1, people replace the worship of God with worship of things in this world, include themselves and their fleshly cravings. The book of Revelation shows that this rejection of God will lead to judgment and destruction. Worship and fear of God leads to salvation.
