Revelation 16:17-21 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. 19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 And great hailstones, about one hundred poundseach, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.

The words, “it is done,” can either be the greatest words that echo what Jesus said on the cross, or the worst words that one could hear when they spell judgment and doom. One day, God will utter these words as the last bowl is poured out. When God speaks, things always happen. With the seventh bowl, a great earthquake comes upon the earth, along with thunder and lightening. This quake will be so severe that it will cause islands to disappear, possibly from a tsunami, and the mountains to crumble. This is worse than even the great storms or quakes today. This storm will include huge hailstones that crush everything in their path. This is the second time Babylon is mentioned. It represents the sinful cities of the world. This city or nation receives the wrath of God for its immorality.

The same problem is present with this bowl: people curse God. But verse 21 does not mention that they refused to repent. It might be that the people are beyond that now. Their fate is sealed because their hearts are hardened. We should never turn our backs on God lest we be like the Babylonians who rejected the true God of heaven.
