Revelation 22:16-17  “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” 17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

The final words of Revelation come from the mouth of Jesus. These words give us a promise and confirm the hope expressed in this book. Jesus describes himself as the Offspring of David, showing his qualification to be the King. He is also the Bright Morning Star, which is the first of many to be seen. The morning star is the promise of a coming new day. Jesus’ first coming is the guarantee of the new day coming with his second coming.

The invitation is for anyone, but there will come a time when it will be too late. Today is the day of salvation (2 Cor 6:1-2). The invitation is given now by the Holy Spirit through the work of the church. People are looking for answers to life, but sadly they find them in the wrong places. This leads to futility and emptiness. The water of life is free. The only requirement is faith. Faith will blossom and grow into action: active faith that is fueled by love for God and for others.
