1 Peter 1:5 …you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Peter now describes those who participate in the hope about which he has been writing. The key qualification for the “you” is faith. Faith opens the door to experience the blessings that God has planned for us. The description of faith here it leads to our being “shielded” by God’s power. The Greek word φρουρουμένους means to guard, protect, or keep. Faith keeps us secure. What protects us is God’s power. When our faith starts to weaken, we disconnect ourselves from the One who can protect us while we live in this world that saps our spiritual and physical energy. God’s power is a shield around us, not because of our own ability to choose the right path because we have chosen the right source. Our protection and growth is not from our own power but by God’s power.
The motivation of our hope is the salvation that will be revealed when Jesus comes again. Without this hope, we are only like any other people of this world. But this hope is based on the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. God will complete His plan for the salvation of the world at the right time. We do not know this time, but we know it is getting closer. Matthew 24 helps us look for the signs that show us the time is drawing closer.
