1 Peter 1:10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,

The message of salvation is not new. God did not all of a sudden decide to become incarnate in Jesus. The plan of salvation was already in place before creation. The prophets were able to get a glimpse of this. They knew God needed to do something to the human situation and that this necessitated an internal change to the human soul (“heart”), including the mind, will, and emotions. The prophets referred to here are Israel’s prophets as seen in the Old Testament. The focus of their searching is described here as “grace.” This grace is what God was going to do new through Jesus. This is what humanity needs. The prophets only got a glimpse of this but we see it now fully revealed. Paul the Apostle calls this the mystery of God in Romans 16:25-26.
