1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
Peter calls his readers obedient children. These type of children listen to instruction and follow through. Obedience takes a degree of humility, trust, and respect. How we view God is very important for how well we will obey God’s teachings. Honoring God through worship is the door that opens to obedience. The requirement and result of obedience will be to reject the evil desires that controlled our thinking in the old life. The old life was bound to evil because we did not know about the good news of Jesus. Once we know the gospel, why would we want to continue in this evil? That would surprise Peter and other apostles. They believed that the good news of Jesus was so wonderful that all should hear about it and everyone should come to repentance. The truth is that some people remain in their ignorance which descends into open rebellion against God. There is hope for change when new awareness comes.
