1 Peter 1:20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
God already had the plan of for redemption of the world before the world was created. This is an astonishing claim that occurs in other places in the New Testament. This has huge implications for both theology and practice. Sometimes I wonder if Christians think too small about their faith and Jesus Christ. We make it all a matter of convenience for ourselves. Peter’s statement here shows that this is on the level of the universe. All of time focused in on the first century in Palestine and then radiates out both backwards and forwards in time. We now live in the reflection of this light that shines from that moment in time. Peter sees himself as living in the last times. These last times continue on until Jesus comes again. We too are living in these last times. The revelation of Jesus is going out into all the world. How will the world respond? No different than what Jesus experienced on earth. Some people will accept him as Lord but others will reject him. It is amazing to consider that Jesus came not simply for the whole generic human race, which is huge in itself, but he came for each individual within this race. This astonishing claim boggles the minds of those who reject it. They see it as foolishness and a waste of time. Their limited vision leaves them captives of this fleeting world. We must let our vision soar to see God’s plan for each person. It begins with redemption from our old life and continues with a new life found in Jesus Christ.
