James 1:8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

A double-minded person thinks one way but acts another. James is describing a person who doubts when praying (verse 6). The clue to why he or she does not receive answers to prayer may be the lack of faith or the misguided focus of the prayer. A double-minded person thinks he or she has faith but it is not really faith. It is only an intellectual belief that has not action to it. Faith must be followed up with obedience. If we pray about a challenge, asking God for wisdom, yet do not live in obedience to God’s command, we will not receive an answer to our prayer because our belief in an answer is not faith but only a personal thought, which is more than likely clouded by our own agendas and selfishness. The type of faith that will move mountains is focused on God and comes from someone who is loving to others in obedience to Jesus’ teaching.
