2 Peter 1:2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
The typical Christian greeting found in the New Testament letters is “grace and peace.” Grace is related to the Greek greeting of “may all be well with you.” Peace is related to the Jewish greeting of shalom, “peace be with you.” When filtered through the gospel message, these two words have a lot of meaning. Grace is God’s favor and blessing upon us. The result is peace with God (Romans 5:1) and peace with one another. Peter’s greeting is in the form of a prayer that what God had started in the lives of the readers will continue, not just a little, but will be “multiplied.” The focus of this is knowledge. This type of knowledge (epiginosko) is not simply factual knowledge but personal knowledge and recognition that comes in close relationship. Peter wants his readers to know God and Jesus personally and intimately.
