Romans 5:2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
It is through Jesus also that we experience God’s grace. All of God’s grace is mediated through the Son who is the Word and communication from God of what grace means. Jesus is the open door, the only door, into this grace. Grace here is another way of saying salvation, not simply “getting into heaven” but the spiritual richness of a new life that can be experienced here on earth and continues forever without the hindrances of fallen and weak bodies after death. Paul is showing the Roman church that this hope is something they can experience now. It brings joy that is not dependent upon anything in this world. The outcome is “the glory of God.” We will be able to be in relationship with the Holy God and be transformed into his likeness as he originally intended. Just as we fall short of this glory (Romans 3:23), so now we can experience this glory. This is our hope, our longing, why we were created in the first place. Paul gets to the deepest theology in this verse.
