2 Corinthians 1:13-14 For we are not writing to you anything other than what you read and understand and I hope you will fully understand— 14 just as you did partially understand us—that on the day of our Lord Jesus you will boast of us as we will boast of you.

Paul hopes the Corinthians understand what he is writing. Sometimes our communication is misunderstood. He wants to be sincere not only in his actions but his words. His words in this letter represent his person. He could not be with them, so this letter is the second best way to communicate with them. He wants them to catch the nuances of his writing. His letters are not easy to understand sometimes. There are subtle messages that take repeating reading to begin to understand. The most important for this situation is that the Corinthians understand that Paul’s motives are pure. It is one thing simply to read the words and it is another to deeply understand them. The goal of this letter is that the Corinthians will understand Paul’s motives and ministry, grow through these, and stand in victory when the Lord Jesus comes. Paul is proud of how far they have come, but the journey is not over. There is much more to it. Don’t give up!

Often we jump to conclusions about people’s motives and actions. We misunderstand what they are trying to say or do. Clear communication will lead to clear understanding. From this vantage point, we can build others up. We need one another on this journey of life so that we come out as victors when Jesus comes again.
