1 John 5:12 The one who has the Son has life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
ὁ ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν ἔχει τὴν ζωήν· ὁ μὴ ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν ζωὴν οὐκ ἔχει.
The fundamental choice in life is what to do with Jesus Christ. Jesus is the way, truth, and life, and the only way to the Father (John 14:6). This verse leaves no gray area. We must choose the Son or another way. John has made the choice very clear in his letter. As we come to the last part of the letter, John gives a summarizing statement for all that he has written. It is not complicated to understand but for some people, it is difficult to accept. It will challenge all people at the core of their being because it requires us to put our trust in something that we have not seen first hand. We must rely on the witness of those who were there. We have to accept the inner voice of the Holy Spirit as we hear or read this ancient testimony. Life is our goal. If a person comes to the point of despairing of life, such a person will need the help of others to carry him or her to the life. As followers of Jesus, we are stewards of the message of life. We are the messengers and sometimes we are the bearers of the message as we carry people to the life.
