Revelation 16:3 The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.

The second bowl is like the first plague of blood in Exodus 7. The sea of blood does not allow living creatures to live or breath and so the sea dies. There are places today that suffer from red tied, a form of toxic red algae. This future plague will be a devastating reminder of the power of God over creation. The blood water of Exodus was only local in Egypt. The blood water of the bowl will be the whole earth. This plague announces the death that comes from sin. The cost of sin is death. The cost of sin one day will be death to the earth and death to humanity. But there is hope. God is into recreating both humanity and earth. Revelation will talk about this newness in the coming chapters. But first comes judgment.

We should be warned about the consequences of sin. Taking sin lightly will only lead to destruction. Sin brings havoc into people’s lives. Sometimes those consequences may not show up for a long time. The remedy for the blood of the wrath is the blood of the new covenant that offers hope and peace.
