Revelation 19:15-16 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of kings and Lord of lords.
The description of Jesus continues in these verses. He comes as king with an iron scepter (a quotation of Psalm 2:9). He suffered death on the cross as “King of the Jews” which qualified him to be “King of kings, and Lord of lords.” The exalted Christ is an important theme in the New Testament. He is called “Lord” many times. In Philippians 2:9-11 is an important reflection on the sovereignty of Christ: “every knee shall bow . . . and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”
We can acknowledge the sovereignty of Jesus now in faith and someday hear him say, Good job, faithful servant. Or, we can ignore him or reject his sovereignty in our lives and experience him as judge. The key to all this is faith. Faith acknowledged Jesus’ sovereignty and supremacy in our lives. This is shown in obedience to his commands.
