1 Peter 1:9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

The faith about which Peter has been writing results in salvation. That is the ultimate goal of our earthly existence. I will admit that I do not think of my salvation every day. I am too busy doing life to keep the big picture in mind. Suffering has the affect of helping us stay focused on the important things. When life is going well, we get comfortable in this world. We forget God because we do not need God. Materialism can be a curse in this regard. I like “things” and to be comfortable. That is what we work for. Yet, there is also an inherent weakness is putting too much hope and faith in things of this world, where “moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal” (Matthew 6:19). Interestingly, Peter uses the presence participle (κομιζόμενοι), “receiving”. We are experience this salvation in part now in this life. This experience gives us hope. It keeps our hope alive. It gives our hope an object and outcome.
