1 Peter 1:11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow.
The Old Testament prophets looked forward to the coming of Christ and the salvation that He would bring. They tried to find out the time when this salvation would come. In Romans 5:6, Paul states, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” The timing was perfect in the order of the cosmos and the affairs of humanity. The circumstances were also right. The political, cultural, and political situations were also just right. The prophets had glimpses of this through the Spirit of Christ. The connection of the Holy Spirit and Christ is also noteworthy. Christ sent the Holy Spirit who is a direct reflection of Him and of the Father. This verse gives us further clues about the nature of the Trinity. The Spirit pointed ahead to the sufferings of the Messiah. Isaiah 53 shows significant insight into this suffering, as do other passages. Peter will reference this suffering in chapter 2. The prophets also had glimpses into the glories that would come. One major focus of this glory is what happens to people when they believe. They are transformed from one degree of glory to the next through this same Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18). This verse shows how the Old and New Testaments are linked in the person of Jesus the Messiah.
