1 Corinthians 2:7

No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.

God’s plan for salvation was already in place before time began. That is a pretty deep thought. It has several implications:

  1. God is eternal and outside of time.
  2. God knew human weakness and what would happen before creation.
  3. God created anyway. God was not “taking a chance” that humanity might get things right. The Garden of Eden was not a grand experiment or test that Adam and Eve could have passed. They were destined for failure, not because God failed, but because humanity is weak in itself and requires divine intervention to survive and thrive.
  4. Creation is clearly an act of love because God love humanity to let it self-destruct. He had a plan that would enable humanity to experience this divine intervention in spite of rejecting God.
  5. The goal of this divine plan was for people to experience God’s glory in Christ and to be restored to the glorious likeness of Christ for which we were created. God has our best in mind.
  6. Our goal is to become like Christ and to experience his power and presence in this world as we grow through the trials that we face in this life.
